What They Say About Us Listen to what some of our graduates are saying about us: My experiences at SVCH have made the transition into private practice very smooth. Surgically I have gained the confidence to undertake a wide variety of cases without hesitation. I have entered into a practice where there is a need for experience with foot and ankle trauma as well as management of difficult Charcot cases. With such a wide patient population at SVCH we received not only the training needed to handle difficult cases but also how to manage all of the complications that may arise. The strong academic atmosphere we maintained during residency continues to stimulate my interest in research and lecturing. I am reminded daily that the training I received at SVCH from a strong group of core attendings has prepared me well for the daily challenges of private practice and I continue to stay affiliated with the program as a member of the Podiatric Surgical Residency Training Committee. Greg Stockfish, D.P.M. I was in the first podiatric residency class at The Mt. Sinai Medical Center. My training at that time was on a par with any other podiatric residency program in the country and continues to benefit me in many ways. From the first day I opened my practice in Columbus, Ohio, I felt confident and comfortable treating the full gamut of podiatric foot and ankle complaints. Podiatric Medicine and Surgery has undergone a major evolution in the past twenty years. My training at Mt. Sinai has enabled me to keep up with these changes and keep on the cutting edge of my profession. I am very grateful for the dedication of the podiatric staff and the support of the hospital that has allowed me to practice my chosen profession. Michael Singerman, D.P.M. I completed my Podiatric Residency Training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, OH. I’ve been in private practice in the Cleveland area for 14 years. Having had the opportunity of working closely with the attendings, and medical/surgical staff at Mount Sinai Hospital, now St. Vincent Charity Hospital was valuable! The training I received during residency, has been the basis for a fulfilling and rewarding private practice today. I remain involved with the Podiatric Surgical Residency Program at St. Vincent Charity Hospital as a teaching attending. I’ve found the residents to be the highest quality of surgical Podiatrist in the nation. The Podiatric Surgical Residency Program at St. Vincent Charity Hospital has my highest recommendation to all Podiatric Medical Students in search of a residency training program. Thomas A. Brosky, D.P.M. I began my residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in 1997. My 3rd year was completed at St. Vincent Charity Hospital. I chose the program for its strong academic and surgical teachings. Also, the ability to work in a private office setting during my third year of training was something other programs did not offer. I completed my residency in 2000, and joined a group practice in Georgia. This practice was not for me, so, I opened my own clinic and have been in solo practice for 2 years now. I enjoy going to work each and every day. The skills I learned during my residency training has enabled me to practice a very broad scope of Podiatry. Currently, I am a surgical attending at Northlake Medical Center and I participate in trauma calls with the residents. I also lecture to patients and physicians on a regular basis in the community. Residency afforded me the luxury of learning from over 20 attending podiatric surgeons. Dr. Gerard V. Yu was my mentor and primary teaching attending. The greatest advantage I had was working with him on a daily basis in the office and operating room during my last year of residency. Being able to follow the patients both pre-operatively and post-operatively for one full year was truly priceless. Besides being a surgical mentor, Dr. Yu has been a close friend to me as he is with all his graduates. He has taught me many lessons for practice and life in general. I can still call him anytime for anything and he’s always there. Without reservation, I would not be where I am in practice or life if it weren’t for the friendships and teachers that I had in my residency program. If there is anyone interested in this particular program, please feel free to contact me at 770-536-7008. Andrew Vincent, D.P.M. The training I received was superior. I am very confident in all skills. I was ready for private practice immediately. I received everything out of this program I had hoped for. Eddie Chen, D.O. The podiatry residents at St. Vincent Charity Hospital have been a pleasure to work with. They have made a tremendous difference in the patient care in diabetes foot care, ulcers, abscesses and peripheral vascular disease in our in patient services. Our patients have stressed how much improvement and care that they received when we refer them to the podiatry residency clinic. We have developed camaraderie among the residents of both residencies both in the hospital and in the various social events that we share. In knowing the clinician and the person, we know that we can count on each other. This gives us a strong relationship for referral to one another once our residencies have been completed. It is a pleasure to work with the podiatry residency. Helmut Schrieber, M.D. As Director, Department of Surgery, I am pleased with the continuing accomplishments of the Podiatric Surgical Residency Program at SVCH. As firm believers in continuing education for all physicians, Dr. Gerard Yu and Dr. Michael Forman have taken this one step further to involve residents with their publications of abstracts and articles. SVCH is very proud of the recent articles peer-reviewed publications of members of the Section of Podiatric Surgery. The involvement of the podiatric residents within the SCVH community has proven to be very successful for all involved. The residents are active participants with the outpatient clinic sessions and community outreach clinics to serve patients in need. The inpatients needs are met with true partnership of all services involved. The Podiatry On-Call Schedule is efficiently managed by the residents and each resident is highly respected in the operating room when working with Podiatry and Orthopedic Attendings. Laurence Bilfield, M.D. The Podiatry Residency at St. Vincent Charity Hospital brings an excellent addition to the clinical activity of the hospital. The residents are of the highest quality and participate both in podiatric cases as well as orthopedic cases when appropriate. Their help in the emergency room and in the operating room is unparalleled and is a legitimate positive experience for all involved. It is also impressive that the research performed by the residents is of the highest quality and is recognized nationally at conferences. In addition, presentations by the podiatry residents have shed great light on very complex podiatric problems. Their success after they finish from St. Vincent Charity Hospital is a true testament to the high quality of this podiatric residency program. |
